Captain Eugene "Chad" Lewis

Eugene Lewis is a human Galactic Patrol captain in his early thirties. Calm, measured, tactically capable, quietly sarcastic, and deeply principled, he is the moral center of the series.

Chad is a competent, field-proven officer respected by the people under his command rather than a member of high command. His conduct reflects discipline, restraint, professionalism, and service rather than personal glory.

Chad belongs to a Founding Family whose Stewardship is military in character. Star's Diplomatic family and Chad's military family are traditionally prohibited from merging their Stewardships, creating a constitutional and personal obstacle between them.

Chad and Star work toward compatible ends through different rules. He knows Star has a crush and does not humiliate her. Their affection develops through respect, awkward timing, near misses, and circumstances that keep them apart.

During cadet training, Eugene manipulated the no-win Command Heuristics Adaptation Drill until its threats stalled and the system recorded a C.H.A.D. anomaly. A teasing form of address became an affectionate mark of respect.
